Cheap work ain’t good…

…and good work ain’t cheap.

I’ve picked up a few of these one liners while working in the industry and they have only become more true as the years go by.

I said another while talking with a coworker, I said “you get what you pay for” and his reply was something like “yeah that’s true, unless we’re talking about housing” in which I replied touché. In my experience in Austin, I definitely agree with him.

Our trees are a different story.

They are assets to our properties and add value to them. They provide numerous benefits that we are able to enjoy. Perhaps we even take them for granted.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve overheard folks downplay tree work or the work that arborists do day in and day out.

It’s hard, dirty and dangerous not glamorous at all.

In the field while doing bids, if someone thought I was too high I was start to the common cliches.

The good ol’ “I know a guy” or “I can do that myself” and my personal favorite “you’re the expert!” Just to name a few.

Usually I would just chuckle to myself, thank folks for their time and walk away.

I know the end result and I know my worth and the value of my work.

There are eye sores all around town along with disgruntled folks who rolled the dice on a fly by night tree dude with a truck that hacked on their tree and was never seen again.

Anyone can pick up a chain saw and butcher a tree while making arbitrary choices on what they’re cutting.

An amateur can do irreversible and unnecessary damage to your trees without understanding industry standards and proper pruning techniques.

Even worse they can get themselves seriously injured or killed.
